[Wilson] Pickett died of a heart attack January 19, 2006 in the hospital near his Ashburn, Virginia home and was buried next to his mother in Louisville, Kentucky. Pickett’s long-time friend, Little Richard, gave the eulogy and preached briefly at the funeral. Wilson spent many years in Louisville when his mother moved there from Alabama. He is considered an honorary son of the city.
